Netizens were alarmed when around 70 bloody test tubes were found by the shores of Boardwalk Park in Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
Dr. Solomon Jacalne of SBMA Public Health and Safety said in a radio interview he did this morning, these vials are solely for blood chemistry purposes only. Some patients have their bloods tested in that department to gather data for their cholesterol, uric acid, complete blood count, etc.
“Ang tawag po talaga sa kanila ay vacutainer tubes; may vacuum po s’ya then kapag tinusukan kayo sa kamay, dun po diretso nang papasok yung dugo sa mga tubes na ito,” he shared.
Dr. Jacalne then assured the public that these samples are far from being connected to the increasing cases of CoVid-2019. Considering the amount of time that the vials floated in the waters, the virus would have been dead by now.
Proper measures should be strictly followed when disposing specimens. First, the samples should be stored in a safe container then be submitted to an accredited collector from Environmental Management Bureau of Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
