After his win at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championship, the House congratulated Carlos Yulo and passed a House resolution in lieu of his recent achievement.

On February 6, the Senate invited Carlos “Caloy” Yulo to personally congratulate the athlete for successfully bringing home two medals in four sports events in England in November 2022.

Last year, Yulo gained bronze and silver medals, making him capture eighth place in the all-around finals and seventh place in the floor exercise during the World Artistic Gymnastics Championship.

Some senators have extended their appreciation for Yulo and used the athlete as an example to encourage other Filipinos to continuously achieve their dreams.

“Ito po sana ay maghikayat sa ating kababayan na kaparehas niya na magkaroon ng lakas ng loob na magsanay at hindi nila kailangang isipin sila ay kailangang maging matangkad o mag-training sa ibang bansa kundi kanilang pagyamanin ang kanilang talento, […] bilang mga Pilipino,” Senator Robin Padilla said.

In line with this, the filing of the House resolution also became a way for the House to highlight the success of athletes after their hard work.

“The story of Carlos Yulo is a success story worth emulating by our struggling and hopeful young athletes… as Caloy puts it: ‘You can break down or break records. It’s up to you,” Senator Jinggoy Estrada said.

Aside from the filed House resolution, the Senate also vowed their support for the next international competition of Yulo at the Paris Olympics in 2024.
