The City Health Office has surpassed its target by 8 percent in the conduct of the “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio” campaign.
Corazon Pagotaisidro, city health office immunization program coordinator, said they were able to vaccinate 105,551 children — a 103-percent accomplishment as their target was only 102,890 children.
Pagotaisidro said those vaccinated with the monovalent type of oral polio vaccine were children aged zero to five years, regardless of their immunization status.
She said the November 25 to December 7 “Sabayang Patak” has been successful because of the participation of the private sector.
Pagotaisidro said they have extended the campaign until Friday to ensure that they do not miss any children aged zero to five years.
She added that they will also try to convince the parents of 729 children who refused to have their kids immunized.
Philippine health officials have said there is no cure for polio but it can be prevented through vaccination.
Eight polio cases have been reported in the country, seven of which are from Mindanao. (PNA)
