The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will lift its Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP), commonly called number coding, from Holy Tuesday to Good Friday, allowing all private vehicles to pass through the National Capital Region (NCR) during the Holy Week.

In an interview at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), MMDA Chair Romando Artes said the suspension of the number coding on Tuesday would allow the public to travel earlier and avoid heavy traffic, especially on Thursday and Friday—both regular holidays.

“We are suspending the number coding scheme on Tuesday and Wednesday to provide the public unhampered mobility by allowing them to use their vehicles going to the provinces,” Artes said.

Under the MMDA’s “Oplan Metro Alalay Semana Santa 2022,” he said a total of 2,861 personnel have also been deployed in major roads, transport hubs, and key areas in NCR to help address the influx of vehicular traffic.

“We want to ensure a safe and convenient movement of motorists and commuters during the Holy Week. We have seen that passengers are starting to crowd the terminal. At present, the commuter volume at PITX is 100,000 daily,” Artes said.

He called on the public to reach out to the MMDA’s Metrobase Hotline 136 for traffic updates, road assistance, and access to the MMDA Road Emergency Group for road emergencies. (PNA)
