Good news for all moms and wives out there! You now have a chance to become the next Miss Universe.

For the first time in history, the Miss Universe Organization is allowing married women and mothers to compete in the prestigious beauty pageant.

Magali Febles, the national director of Miss Universe Dominican Republic, confirmed the news in a celebratory post on her Instagram account.

The new rule is a groundbreaking moment for the competition, as, for 70 years since it launched, the organization has maintained the rule that only single women from ages 18 to 28 and have never been married or had children, are eligible to apply.

The age bracket requirement will remain the same.

The update rule will be implemented for the Miss Universe 72nd Pageant to be held next year. The preliminary season for Miss Universe 2022 is already underway. The big night will be happening in December this year.

“We all believe that women should have agency over their lives and that a human’s personal decisions should not be a barrier to their success,” the memo reads, as obtained in a memo by The National.

The Miss Universe Organization has been taking strides toward inclusivity. In 2018, the beauty pageant made history by allowing Spain’s Angela Ponce, a trans woman, to compete.

The reactions are divided about the new rule. Some are applauding the organization’s effort to be more inclusive.

One Twitter user commended all the implementations the organization has done, including allowing transwomen to compete and removing the height requirement and said that “it’s about high time for other countries to open this up for discussion, let us all move forward to a more inclusive society.”

Meanwhile, another Twitter user is still on the fence about the new rule. “I’m kinda half hearted about Miss Universe accepting married women and single mothers. I mean, the attention to fulfill her duties as Miss Universe and her responsibilities to her family will be divided. After all, we already have Mrs. Universe,” the user reasoned.
