A range of artworks and handmade products crafted by persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) are now on display at the Children’s Paradise Park in Odiongan, Romblon, as part of the Agri-Trade Fair 2025 from March 31 to April 7.

The event is being held in partnership with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-Odiongan District Jail, led by acting warden Jail Senior Inspector Dante Montilla, and the local government unit (LGU) of Odiongan.

BJMP Mimaropa information officer Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo said the trade fair aims to provide a platform for people to support PDLs’ creations.

“The event not only helps boost the morale of PDLs but also challenges the stigma associated with jail residents,” Anglo said.

He said the fair offers PDLs the opportunity to generate income during their confinement, contributing to their personal upkeep and providing financial support to their families.

Among the products featured at the trade fair are wood handicrafts, including foldable tables, lampshades, cellular phone stands, coin banks, and various home décor items.

Jail Senior Supt. Clarence Mayangao, regional director of the Jail Bureau, expressed appreciation for the skills, craftsmanship, and transformation of PDLs.

He also commended the dedication of jail officials in creating an environment that fosters reform, growth, and development for the inmates.

The partnership between BJMP-ODJ and the Odiongan LGU ensures that the event not only highlights the talents of local artisans but also promotes skill development among the PDLs. (PNA)
