Encouraging soon-to-be-married Filipino couples to effectively budget their money, the House of Representatives has approved the bill that mandates the registration of married couples to comply with financial education.

On November 7, the House Committee on Population and Family Relations released its decision for House Bill 5288, which strictly orders Filipino couples to apply for financial training first before getting their marriage license.

This House bill will mandate the local civil registrar to check on the Filipino applicants’ submission of the certification as they complete the personal finance education that they took before their date of marriage and was authorized by their local Family Planning Office.

The said bill was pushed through by the members of the house as they highlighted the essence of having a background in money budgeting when it comes to a family setting.

This will be part of the campaign of the government when it comes to enhancing the presence of family planning in the country, noting that financial problems have been considered one of the common concerns of Filipino families.

“It encourages our kababayans na mag-save, maghanda sa mga pangangailangan nila, hindi lang sa kasal, kundi sa pagpapanganak ng asawa, sa pagpapa-aral sa mga bata, and later on sa retirement mismo ng mag-asawa,” the bill’s author, Jose Manuel Alba, said.

To sum it up, applicants for marriage licenses should complete a marriage license application form, an identification card, birth certificates, tax certificates, and valid certifications from programs that should be completed by the couple, such as this financial program.
