The Department of Health (DOH) is looking to ban “mukbang” videos after a 37-year-old mukbang vlogger died from a stroke.

Mukbang vlogger Dongz Apatan died on June 14 due to a stroke after eating a large amount of fried chicken and rice.

This prompted Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa to issue the warning.

He expresses worries about the practice because it encourages overeating, which can lead to obesity and other health problems.

DOH is investigating Apatan’s death to see if they can ban such “unhealthy” activities.

He also hinted at involving the Department of Information and Communications Technology to restrict such content, equating it to “food pornography.”

Further, Herbosa emphasized the need to mitigate health risks associated with their practices, suggesting potential regulatory measures to curb overeating.

While influencers can still make money from their content, Herbosa stressed the need to reduce health risks, suggesting possible rules to prevent excessive eating.
